The purpose of this qualification is to recognise the entry-level skills and knowledge required to provide person-centered support in the health and wellbeing sectors, and to provide a training pathway for entry into careers in the health and wellbeing sectors.
Entry Requirements
English Language Requirements
Applicants must have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake this programme of study which is taught in English. Students intending to enrol for training are assessed on their language, literacy and numeracy abilities to determine their capability to successfully undertake the training and determine whether any additional support is needed.
Education Pathway
This qualification provides a pathway for people to progress from secondary education, new learners wanting to work in a health or wellbeing related service or those wanting to reenter the workforce in a health or wellbeing setting.
Graduates may progress to the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) with strands in Health Assistance, Newborn Hearing Screening, Orderly Services, Support Work, Vision Hearing Screening and Whānau, Kin and Foster Care [Ref: 2470].
Employment Pathway
Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge required to work safely and effectively in entry-level positions in the health or wellbeing sectors.
Scheduled Classes
Compulsory attendance of 18 hours (full time) or 8 hours (part time) per week at class on campus and min. 80 hours of work experience.
Blended Hours: 11 ours face to face class per week on campus and 7 hours online
Learning Activities
6.6 hours (full time)/ 4.3 hours (part time)/ 6.6 hours (blended FT) per week of home study.
